As we prepared to fling open the doors of Mountain Water in early 2020, a mysterious virus spread quickly around the globe. As things everywhere were closed and restricted it seemed judicious to keep the doors mostly shut. While we have hosted a few individuals and small groups during this time, we’ve been very cautious. This summer has brought both a sense of relief and renewed alertness: we’re not clear of this yet. Please do subscribe to our occasional newsletters or check the blog for ongoing news.

Seek & Find colors: Weekend Painting Workshop with Joan Anderson

Saturday morning in the studio, we will use small viewfinders and cameras to discover palettes of colors we like, then make sketches of tiny invented possibility paintings. Saturday afternoon we will make an excursion to the rich Art & Architecture book collection at Norlin Library on the CU campus. In books myriad art forms are the inspiration for discovering new palettes. Then, Sunday,  back in the studio, we’ll use our color discoveries to make paintings of our own invention.

I am beginning the year painting and invite you to come along. The theme and title of my 6-week class, XX. PAINT BEST, is inspired by a short list of New Year’s “rulins” borrowed from Woody Guthrie’s 1943 list: 18. Stay Glad  20. Dream Good  26. Dance Better. To this I add XX. Paint Best.
